We'll see how long the SNAP benefits stay minus the $95 per family per month as the pandemic rolls on. The deal is that grocery store owners, canneries, and farmers (both family and corporate) benefit the MOST from SNAP benefits. It was actually set up for them in 1964 - While Kennedy and eventually Johnson meant for it to help income eligible individuals the most, in order to get it passed, they put in helps and cushions for the aforementioned businesses to benefit the most. There are 2 Walmarts in our small state who garners 98% of their profit from SNAP == 2 entire stores. We don't even have what are called High Impact Cities in our state. So, you can imagine how much those dollar stores and convenience stores depend on SNAP to keep them afloat. Here's one thing you may not know: Most city farmer's market will double your SNAP benefit up to $20 per week if you take your card in so if you take it in your $20 in SNAP becomes $40 to spend at the farmer's market. Usually it's run by the Extension service (so -- University of Nevada at Reno for you. 8050 Paradise Road Ste. 100 in Las Vegas. I'm sorry I don't know the number but call them and see if they have a "double up" program with SNAP for Farmer's Markets. It will stretch the money and it can only be spent on local farmer's produce, eggs, meat etc..... Also, this is a small thing and may not help much but most SNAP recipients don't know that they can use coupons with their SNAP. That DOES make it stretch sometimes. You have to pay around 50 cents per time if you have grocery taxes but to save $50.00 over all on your bill for 50 cents is pretty good return. Great subject matter! SNAP needs a crusader like you!! <3

Thank you so much for this comment! I am going to write more about convenience stores. and yes, they are super-dependent on SNAP and people grocery shopping there, as are dollar stores. They are so complicated in communities. And gas stations need their convenience markets because they make very little selling gas. Thank you also, Kelli for the info about coupons and doubling up. Many of our farmers markets are so expensive here in the desert that I have very little faith that SNAP doubling would even matter. But I'm going to do some digging based on this info!

I’ve seen double SNAP work nicely in my community. The addition of a bus route to the farmer’s market increased participation. Also, I’m in an agriculturally diverse region and that helps keep prices lower. Of all things to mess with during a time of historic food inflation 🤬

I'm going to do a little digging about double snap and access here in Nevada. Thanks for telling me about this.
