I came across that exact CS Lewis quote on Election Day and shared it with my husband and my staff. Comforting to see it here again. I’ve been telling myself it’s good to do “sensible and human things” each and every day. Decorating the Christmas tree. A workout video on YouTube. An ice-cold glass of lemon water. Watching the birds fly in the morning. Cuddling my kids. Doing laundry. Cleaning the leaves of my houseplants. Looking at old baby photos. I can’t converse about this for hours or over-process it or listen to endless podcasts of everyone’s answers and hot takes. But I can do sensible and human things. ❤️

Just hung up w/ a longtime friend + we both agreed that there is both nothing + so much to say. How to console each other when it is so important to console one's self? Going inward seems right for now. Then we can dust ourselves off + figure out which part of this colossal shit pile we want to tackle and take care of those without a voice. That's the part I worry most about of all. Thanks for putting words to the page.

Maybe this explains why I’ve been relatively subdued. But the rage must return someday!

Thanks, Kim. You always put my thoughts and feelings into words. I'm resting now. Maybe I too, will fight again one day. I'm pretty sure I have learned a few things regarding the election: What goes around does not always come around. Some people always get everything they want. Some people are real teflon -- none of their bad actions ever stick. I'll get over it and become optimistic once again, but not today!
