I love your beautiful essays, and this one is no different. I have a question, meant genuinely and respectfully as a mom of a 20-year-old, 18-year-old, and 13-year-old; do your children mind that you share so honestly about their struggles? I find myself in this place now, with older kids, of needing support and guidance from my friends, and also wanting to honor their privacy. Even with my husband, as my daughter will often want to share things with me that she doesn't want me talking to her dad about. I've told her I won't keep important secrets from him (that's not how partners/parents operate), but I do keep some of the more "trivial" things from him as a way to respect the way she is sharing with me. But navigating all of this is strange and complex. Anyway, if you, or anyone else has a pov to share, I'm all ears. Thanks again!

What amazing photographs to accompany this piece that is beautifully done. I wish Edie did not have to go through this but, silver lining, your courage in writing about it lets me know that we all have so much in common and so much that connects us.
